SharePoint mobile app: what Microsoft documents and how to open your lists
Short answer: Microsoft's support pages for the SharePoint mobile app describe a Find tab, a Me tab and a News tab, and the iOS page says you can browse sites, files and lists. Microsoft's mobile app pages do not describe a redesigned home screen or a renamed Favorites option. To open a list on your phone today, use the mobile browser steps in this guide.
What Microsoft's pages say about the app
Microsoft's iOS page says: "Browse and search for sites, team site activity, files and lists and view people profiles." Both the iOS and the Android pages describe the same layout.
- Find tab. The page says this tab "provides an intranet content collaboration hub for mobile devices." It lists Quick access, Recent files, Frequent sites and Featured links.
- Me tab. The page says to "visit the Me tab for recent and saved content."
- News tab. The page says to access News from the News tab.
- Sites you follow. The page says you can find sites you follow under More sites.
Retired entry points. Both pages say: "We retired 3 entry points to access contents from the SharePoint mobile app." They list the tab for popular files, the Recent Files section from the quick navigation links on team sites, and the recent activity list on the Recent tab. Microsoft recommends the search bar and save for later instead.
What the pages do not say
Microsoft's pages for the iOS app, the Android app, "What's new in SharePoint" and "Getting started with Discover in SharePoint" do not describe a redesigned mobile home screen, a Discover home in the mobile app, a Following option renamed Favorites, or dark mode. The Discover page describes the web experience and says its Left Rail shows "Favorite sites you've explicitly starred." It does not mention the mobile app.
If your admin has seen a notice about a mobile change, the Message Center in the Microsoft 365 admin center is where the dates and details are posted. Your admin can read it there.
If your phone shows a different home screen after an update, use the search bar to find your site. The browser steps below do not depend on the app layout.
Open a SharePoint list on a phone, step by step
Microsoft's page on the retirement of the Microsoft Lists mobile apps recommends the mobile web version, which "offers more functionality and continues to be updated with latest improvements." Here are the steps it gives.
- Open the browser on your phone.
- Go to your organization's SharePoint root site. Microsoft's page shows the form https://[organization-name].sharepoint.com.
- At the root site, tap the Microsoft Suite navigation icon in the top left corner.
- If Lists is not in the app list, tap More apps in the bottom right corner, then tap Lists.
- You can also use the shortcut link https://office.com/launch/Lists.
Exact names may differ on your screen.
Our advice, not a Microsoft rule: once the list is open in the browser, add a bookmark or a home screen shortcut from the browser's own menu, so the next visit is one tap. The shortcut opens that list's address, not the app.
The Lists mobile apps
Microsoft's retirement page says the Lists mobile apps were "retired in mid-November 2025" and were removed from the App Store and Google Play. For the longer story and your options, see "Microsoft Lists phone app is gone: what to use now".
If your list does not show in the SharePoint app
- Search for the list by name with the search bar. Microsoft recommends search after the retired entry points.
- Our advice, not a Microsoft rule: open the site first, then look for the list in the site's content.
- If neither works, open the list in the browser with the steps above.
Microsoft's mobile app pages do not cover filtered views, offline use or guest users.
Who can see the list
A phone does not change who can open a list. Access comes from the site and list permissions. If someone cannot open a list, see "Fix "Access denied" on a SharePoint list".
When to get help
You can build all of this yourself in Microsoft 365. If you would rather have it built and tested for your team, I do that. A tracker like this is a fixed price: $5,000 for one, built in 2 weeks. See "What a SharePoint tracker costs to build". Bring one example of the problem to a free call.
I am Al Davies. I run 250 High Street LLC and build SharePoint trackers and Power Automate flows for operations teams. I work remotely. The first call is free, and I will not try to sell you anything.
