Microsoft Lists phone app is gone: what to use now
Short answer: There is no Microsoft Lists app for iPhone or Android now. Open Lists in your phone's web browser at https://office.com/launch/Lists, or open the list from a Microsoft Teams tab. Microsoft says the mobile apps were retired in mid-November 2025 and removed from the App Store and Google Play, that people who still had the app get an error, and that your lists and data are not affected. Nothing needs to be rebuilt.
What Microsoft says happened
Microsoft's support page on the retirement says four things that matter to a small team:
- The Lists mobile apps for Android and iOS were retired in mid-November 2025.
- The apps were removed from the App Store and Google Play.
- Existing users get an error if they try to open the app.
- Lists and data are not affected. They stay available on a computer and in a mobile web browser.
Microsoft also says administrators do not need to take any action. It asks admins to make sure users know about the change and to point them to Lists on a computer or in a mobile browser. If you are the person people ask, that is your job: tell the team once, with the steps below.
Signs this is hitting your team
- Someone says "the Lists app shows an error" or "the app is not in the store anymore."
- A person with a new phone cannot find the app to install.
- Field staff used the app to look up or update items and stopped doing it.
- Updates that used to happen on site now wait until someone is back at a desk.
Option 1. Use Lists in your phone browser
Microsoft recommends the mobile web version. Its page says the web version offers more functionality and continues to get updates. These steps follow Microsoft's retirement page. Exact names may differ on your phone or in your organization.
- Open your phone's browser and go to your organization's SharePoint root site. This is the main address your company uses for SharePoint. If you do not know it, ask your admin for the link. It usually looks like https://[organization-name].sharepoint.com.
- Sign in with your work account if asked.
- Tap the Microsoft Suite navigation icon in the top left corner.
- If Lists is not shown, tap More apps in the bottom right corner, then tap Lists.
- Open the list you need.
Microsoft's retirement page gives a shortcut that opens Lists directly: https://office.com/launch/Lists. Send it to your team so they all use the same one.
Option 2. Use Microsoft Teams
If your team already works in Teams, a list can sit in a channel as a tab. Microsoft's Teams help says that on mobile devices, team members can view and edit lists but not create or add them. So someone sets it up on a computer once, and everyone else can open it from the Teams phone app.
- On a computer, open the Teams channel where the list should live.
- Select Add a tab (the plus button) at the top of the channel.
- In the Add a tab window, select Lists. Use search if you do not see it. Then select Save.
- To show a list you already have, choose Add an existing list. You can pick one from the same team, from another team you belong to, or paste the list's SharePoint link. Microsoft says only standard SharePoint lists can be added, not personal lists.
- On the phone, open the channel in Teams and tap the Lists tab.
A Microsoft Q&A answer from a Microsoft External Staff moderator says the same thing in plain terms: lists stay reachable and editable in Teams after the mobile app retirement. Your admin controls whether Lists is allowed in Teams for your organization, so check with them if the Lists tab is missing.
Option 3. Put a shortcut on your phone's home screen
This is our advice, not a Microsoft rule. Phone browsers have a way to save a web page to the home screen. Once you have the list open in the browser, use that browser feature to save it. The exact wording depends on your browser and phone, so look in the browser's share or menu button. Microsoft's pages do not describe this step, so test it on one phone before you tell the whole team.
Make the list easy to use on a small screen
The retired app was one way to read a list. The list itself is still the same. A few small changes make it much easier in a browser on a phone. This part is our advice, not a Microsoft rule.
- Make one view for phones. Show only the three to five columns a person needs on site, such as the Title column, Status and Due date.
- Name the view plainly, for example "Phone view", so nobody has to guess.
- Put the most important column first. A narrow screen cuts off columns on the right.
- Keep the Title column. If it is required in your list, rename it to something useful like "Item" or turn off Require in the column settings.
- Remember that a view is not security. A shorter view does not hide data from anyone. Use list permissions for that.
What about scanning QR codes and other app features?
Some people used the app for tasks like scanning codes. Microsoft's retirement page does not list which app features are gone. It only says the web version offers more functionality. It also does not describe QR scanning. If your team relied on a specific feature, test the same task in the browser on one phone. If it does not work there, write down exactly what is missing and ask your admin or Microsoft support whether another option exists. Do not assume a replacement exists until you have seen it work.
A simple rollout plan
- Today, send one message to everyone who used the app. Say the app is gone, the data is safe, and give the steps for the browser or Teams.
- Pick one way as the team standard, browser or Teams. One way is easier to support than three.
- Test with two people on different phones, one iPhone and one Android if you have both.
- Fix anything that fails, such as sign-in prompts or a missing Lists tab.
- Pin the message in your team chat so new hires find it.
What to avoid
- Do not rebuild your lists because the app is gone. The data is not affected.
- Do not tell people to keep trying the old app. Microsoft says it gives an error.
- Do not copy a list's data to a spreadsheet just to use it on a phone. You will end up with two versions that disagree.
- Do not send people a long guide. Send two or three steps and one link.
- Do not skip the Teams admin check if you plan to use Teams. If Lists is turned off for your organization, the tab will not appear.
Honest limits
A phone browser is not the same as an app. Pages can load slower, you sign in through the browser, and some actions that were quick in the app may take more taps. Teams on mobile lets people view and edit but not add lists, so someone has to set up each list on a computer. If your work depends on a feature that only the old app had, the options above may not cover it. Test first.
When to get help
You can build all of this yourself in Microsoft 365. If you would rather have it built and tested for your team, I do that. A tracker like this is a fixed price: $5,000 for one, built in 2 weeks. See "What a SharePoint tracker costs to build". Bring one example of the problem to a free call.
I am Al Davies. I run 250 High Street LLC and build SharePoint trackers and Power Automate flows for operations teams. I work remotely. The first call is free, and I will not try to sell you anything.

FAQ
Is there a Microsoft Lists app now?
No. Microsoft's support page says the Lists mobile apps for Android and iOS were retired in mid-November 2025 and removed from the App Store and Google Play. Use Lists in a mobile web browser.
Did I lose my lists or my data?
No. Microsoft says lists and data are not affected. They remain available on a computer and in a mobile web browser.
Is the mobile web version worth using?
Microsoft recommends it and says it offers more functionality and continues to be updated.
Can I still use my list in the Teams phone app?
Yes, if the list was added to a Teams channel as a tab. Microsoft's Teams help says people on mobile can view and edit lists but not create or add them, so add the list from a computer first.
Does my admin need to do anything?
Microsoft says no admin action is required. It asks admins to tell users about the change and point them to Lists on a computer or in a mobile browser.
