> Teams meeting notes are Loop files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint. Where each kind is saved, and four reasons they stop loading or appear missing.

Short answer: collaborative meeting notes in Teams are Loop files, and where the file sits depends on the type of meeting. Channel meeting notes sit in a Meetings folder on the channel's SharePoint site. Private meeting notes sit in the OneDrive of the person who created them. Notes that look missing can be a file that was moved, a switch an admin turned off, or a person without access.

## Where each kind is stored

Microsoft's Loop admin page has a table that maps each creation path to a storage place.

- Teams channel meeting: a SharePoint site, in the Meetings folder.
- Teams private meeting: the user's OneDrive, in the Meetings folder.
- Teams private chat: the user's OneDrive, in the Microsoft Teams Chat files folder.
- Teams channel: a SharePoint site, in the channel folder.

So the first place to look is the Meetings folder. For a channel meeting, open the channel's SharePoint site. For a private meeting, the person who made the note is the person whose OneDrive holds it.

## Check 1. Was the file moved?

Microsoft's Loop components page says: "Moving a .loop file from OneDrive to a SharePoint site results in the Loop component failing to load in Teams chat, Outlook email, or any other place it was previously shared to." It also says components do not load if the file was moved to a different library. A move to a different folder inside the same library is fine, per the same page.

1. Open the OneDrive or SharePoint folder from the table above.
2. Look for a .loop file with the meeting name.
3. If it is in another library, move it back to the library where it started.

## Check 2. Did an admin turn it off?

Microsoft says the Teams setting for collaborative meeting notes is the SharePoint property IsCollabMeetingNotesFluidEnabled, and that it "applies to the entire tenant and can't be configured at the user level." Another property, IsLoopEnabled, controls Loop components in Teams. Microsoft says Loop components default to ON for all organizations.

If an admin turns the Loop components setting off, Microsoft says existing messages "will no longer render as an interactive Loop component, instead they render as a hyperlink." The link still opens in a browser tab in the Loop viewer, and you can edit if you have edit permission. Teams New Calendar follows Cloud Policy settings instead. Microsoft says a new Cloud Policy setting takes up to 90 minutes to show if policies already existed, and up to 24 hours if none did.

Send your admin Microsoft's page "Manage Loop in your organization" ([https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/loop/loop-admin-configuration](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/loop/loop-admin-configuration)), and ask which of the two properties is set in your tenant.

## Check 3. Does the viewer have access?

Microsoft says Loop components "default to the organization's existing permissions, but users can change permissions before sending to ensure everyone has access." It lists a known issue: with a tenant default of Specific people, a link pasted into another chat needs the sender to add the recipients in the permissions dialog. With that same Specific people default, a component made in a group chat of more than 20 members needs the sender to choose the permission options by hand.

## Check 4. Does the creator have a OneDrive account?

Microsoft says people who create components from chat or email must have a OneDrive account. Without a valid one, a person may still work on a component someone else made, but cannot make their own.

## If the file is damaged or the owner left

Microsoft says Version History lets you "review, restore, or copy from previous versions of the file." For a file whose owner left, it says OneDrive retention policies apply to .loop files like other content that user created. A downloaded .loop file cannot be reopened until it is uploaded back to OneDrive or SharePoint.

## Keep notes where they cannot vanish

Our advice, not a Microsoft rule: after each meeting, copy the decisions and action items into a SharePoint list with a person, a due date and a status, so they do not depend on one person's OneDrive. See "[Meeting action items forgotten](/guides/meeting-action-items-forgotten/)".

## When to get help

You can build all of this yourself in Microsoft 365. If you would rather have it built and tested for your team, I do that. A tracker like this is a fixed price: \$5,000 for one, built in 2 weeks. See "[What a SharePoint tracker costs to build](/guides/what-a-sharepoint-tracker-costs/)". Bring one example of the problem to a free call.

I am Al Davies. I run 250 High Street LLC and build SharePoint trackers and Power Automate flows for operations teams. I work remotely. The first call is free, and I will not try to sell you anything.

## FAQ

### Where are Teams meeting notes saved?

For a channel meeting, in the Meetings folder of the channel's SharePoint site. For a private meeting, in the Meetings folder of the user's OneDrive.

### Why are my Teams meeting notes not showing?

The file may have been moved, an admin may have turned off Loop, or you may lack permission to open it.

### What file type are Teams meeting notes?

Microsoft says Loop components created in Teams and Outlook are .loop files.

### Can an admin turn off meeting notes in Teams?

Yes. Microsoft says the IsCollabMeetingNotesFluidEnabled property controls collaborative meeting notes, for the whole tenant. Notes made from the Teams New Calendar follow a Cloud Policy setting instead.

### Can I restore an earlier version of a Loop note?

Yes. Microsoft says .loop files can be restored to previous versions from OneDrive.
